Rick Gildroy left this world in peace on October 16, 2023 after having suffered through a final illness. His family and many friends are missing his presence in their lives.
Born in Billings, Montana to parents Richard “Dick” Gildroy and Dorothy Nies Gildroy, he grew up in Roundup, Great Falls, and Superior Montana. He lived in Billings, Missoula, Denver and Seattle before moving to Helena to start a computer store with his dad and grandmother at the beginning of the personal computer age. The store evolved into an IT consulting business in the Power Block Building a few years later. In 1991 he started a painting contracting business, GPR Painting, a company that repainted numerous commercial buildings in downtown Helena over the years, as well as at Carroll College and many residences.
He was a guitarist and songwriter who played with musicians all over Montana, playing in several bands including the Laughing Fish Blues Band and Sacred Ground. He will be remembered as one who tried to help many to recover from the effects of addiction in their lives for the last 34 years.
Rick is survived by his life partner, Prudie Allen Gildroy, his sons Gilbert and John Gildroy, his brother John F. Gildroy of Eugene, Oregon, his sisters-in-law Susan Manelli and Barda Allen, and his nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on November 18, 2023 at the Hardware Café, 11 Banker’s Lane, Montana City, Montana beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Simple Cremation Montana has assisted the family.
