Peggy Marie Slater, age 72, passed away at St Peters Hospital in Helena Montana on April 15th, 2024.Peggy was born in Shell Lake WI, the first child to Roy and Gladys Slater. She grew up in Shell Lake and graduated from Shell Lake High School. She was an excellent student in math and sciences, and was the first girl, at the time, to take shop class with the boys! After Graduation, she attended school in Milwaukee WI and attained a degree in Architectural drafting. She worked in that field for several years.
On January 31st 1971 she attended a Jesus people meeting with her brother Ted Slater at the height of the Jesus revolution, and gave her heart to Christ. She began attending Church with her parents and family at at Shell Lake full Gospel with Pastor Virgil Amundson. God had done a great work in the Slater family! Roy and Gladys had 5 children and all of them have been in the ministry at some point in their lives because of this beautiful transformation by Christ.
Peggy battled diabetes her whole life from the age of 3 but still did so much in her time here. She was a missionary assistant in both Columbia and Japan. She always dreamed of going back to Japan but never made it. She lived independently in Minneapolis MN for many years and served in the churches she attended until she was unable to live on her own, at which time she moved to Montana to live with her younger sister and Brother in Law Scott and Nancy Ward. She battled, and beat breast cancer, and for her 70th birthday jumped out of a plane and lived to tell of it. She was a spunky warrior!
Peggy was known for several things. She was NOT a morning person. She was most productive when others were long asleep. She was a true optimist and always saw the good in others. She was generous, kind and pretty fearless. She was a true overcomer, and to know her was to love her. She, and her crazy fun personality will be sorely missed!
Peggy is survived by her sister Nancy Ward of Helena MT. Her brothers Roy Slater from Spooner WI, her Brother Dan Slater from Shell Lake WI, her Brother Ted from Perrysburg OH and many nieces and nephews, all of which love her dearly.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday April 26th at 1:00 pm at Last Chance Chapel, 6240 Raven Road, Helena, Montana 59602. Simple Cremation Montana has assisted the family.
