Mary Jeanette Nickel (born Poyser) of Helena, Montana died at home on May 4, 2022. She was 91 years old.
Mary was born on October 31, 1930, in Indiana to Henry and Mildred Poyser. She had an older sister, Margaret A, deceased, and an older brother, Lowell of Florida. Mary married her high school sweetheart, Jack M Nickel, on January 19, 1950. They were married for 63 years before Jack's death in 2013. Mary made several moves throughout the country due to Jack's career. They finally moved to Helena in 1975 where they settled. Throughout the moves Mary worked at various jobs but her main career was as mother and homemaker. Jack and Mary shared their love of sports, particularly golf. Mary was a very loving, caring, and generous mother, wife, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her children Steven (Sandi) of Helena, Larry (Debbie) of Helena, and Deborah Theurer (Lyle) of Spokane, Washington; her grandchildren Dorrie Fishback, Debbie (Tal) Harbour, Calli, Cody (Heather), Brianna (Brittany) McLean, and Kirsten (Zachary) Whipple; six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Nancy and her granddaughter Lindsey.
Mom very much enjoyed her lunches with the 'golf ladies'.
The family would like to thank the Hospice staff that cared for her and all the staff at the Legacy who she dearly loved and appreciated.
Simple Cremation Montana has assisted the family. A service and interment will be held at 10:00am on June 6, 2022, at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Fort Harrison, Montana.
