Gail Marie Beran

Gail Marie Soloweyko Beran, age 68, passed away surrounded by family on April 8, 2023 at her home in Helena, Montana. 

Gail was born on May 18, 1954, in Windsor, Ohio, to Alex and Rosemarie (Cumber) Soloweyko. After her marriage to James S. Beran in 1975, the pair moved west to start their life of adventure, raising three children and instilling in them their love of outdoor recreation, wildlife, and travel. Gail was the original “super mom,” working full-time, cheering on her kids in sports, and managing several cross-country moves. She was known for her wit, adventurous spirit, and award-winning pies.

After an accomplished career as an RN and leader in long-term care communities, Gail and her dog, Bella, relocated from Washington to Montana in 2016 to be closer to family and hiking trails. Nothing made her happier than world travels with family or snuggling with and shopping for her grandbabies, near and far. 

Gail was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 26 years, James S. Beran and father, Alex Soloweyko. She is survived by her two daughters Sarah (Rick Waters) of Washington, DC, and Jessica (Greg Dorrington) of Helena, MT, and son James (Beth Beran) of Mahwah, NJ. She also relished her roles of “Gee” to grandchildren Liv and Evelyn Dorrington, and Emily and James Beran; sister to Andy Soloweyko, Joyce (Larry) Lampp, and Barbara (Michael) Winston; daughter to Rosemarie Soloweyko; auntie to her nieces and nephews and their children; and friend to countless people, from Washington to Ohio, and many places in between. A very special thank you to Terri “Tink” Sweeney, Bri Mustelier, and Danica Crist – an indispensable team of caregivers who Gail loved like family these last several months as she waged her brave battle.
