Ellen Grubich Obituary

Ellen Marie (Fabich) Grubich born May 28, 1949, died October 14, 2023. Her husband, son, and Montana grandchildren were with her on the day of her passing.

El’s legacy contains her nine grandchildren and one great grandchild, her faith that she practiced through the United Methodist Church in Mead, Washington, the very successful business (Ellies Edibles-Gourmet Caramels) that she created to fulfill a childhood dream, and the friendships she nurtured with people who were in need. She didn’t know how to leave the homeless person standing on the corner dealing with hunger. Her closest friends were her elders whom she treated all like family.

Her grandchildren will forever have memories of making caramel at the farm in Green Bluff (Colbert-WA).  They will cherish the times they witnessed grandma’s passion come to life as she taught them the ropes of making her famous treat’s they all loved so much. They will always think about her and cherish the memories they made and will never forget how much she loved them.

A nephew remembers that El was very giving.  He remembers a povitica showing up in rural Mountain Village (AK) one Christmas.  He knew it came from a longways away, but at the time did not know who sent it. The gift made him feel very special. His sister remembers El as a very hard worker who blessed her and her family so much.

El’s legacy needs to include that she passed on to her son her uncanny ability to bring the family together with their culinary skills.  In the early years it was simply the meals she would prepare for the holidays.  Her povitica was second to none. Once she created Ellies Edibles a whole new side of her evolved.  Now she was creating for the public rather than just the family.  Her sea salt caramels, natural fruit caramels, apple stacks and other gourmet creations were loved by everyone that was fortunate enough to taste them. She created one product that was so incredible that one of her customers named it “sin in a bag”.

As her husband I will look for the memories we made when we traveled, when we would go to the Clearwater River steelhead fishing, work around our farm or just watch a good movie. For thirty-one years she was my rock, my confidant, and my best friend. She protected me and kept me seeing the important things in life. Until Death Do We Part meant everything to her.

At her wish there will be no formal service or memorial.  She has been cremated. Prior to her death she identified the sites where she wanted her ashes to be distributed. You can honor Ellie by sending a donation to the Green Bluff United Methodist Church (9908 East Green Bluff Rd., Colbert, WA.  99005).
