Debbie Mudd Spranget was born, along with her twin sister Dianne, on May 23, 1959 in Tacoma, Washington. She passed on August 18, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. She grew up in Clancy, MT and attended grade school there, and high school in Boulder, MT and then attended Brown Institute of Broadcasting in Minneapolis, MN.
Debbie started her career in broadcasting in 1979 at KCAP radio in Helena as an on-air talent. Those of you who enjoyed Rock and Roll on the radio may remember that sexy voiced night-time DJ named Michelle Ross – that was our Debbie! She wanted to get into the creative and sales part of the business, so she worked in various aspects of broadcast media including radio, television, and the local newspaper. Her most recent position was Account Executive for KHBB ABC and Fox TV in Helena.
Debbie married Clark Nelson Spranget on August 2, 1997 and helped to raise her stepson Jon. She loved spending time at their cabin at Holter Lake along with many neighbors there. Debbie enjoyed hiking and recreating in Glacier National Park and did so for 36 years with a core group of friends known as the Glacier Wine Walkers, the latest trip being this past July.
Debbie was a member of the Helena Chamber of Commerce for many years, winning Volunteer of the Year award in 2007 with her husband Clark. She was a 22-year board member of Farm in the Dell International, an Executive Committee member of Festival of Trees for Intermountain, and active in other organizations and non-profits.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Gary and Roger. She is survived by her husband Clark, sister Dianne Green of San Jose CA, brother Mike (Diana) Mudd of Billings MT, niece Alicia Red Star (Kevin) of Grand Junction CO, stepson Jon (Jamie) Spranget with grandchildren Ava, Ethan and Emilia of Spotsilvania VA, granddaughter Lilia (Carey) Sovereign of Hayden ID, brother-in-law Gene (Diane) and niece Wytni Spranget of Bozeman, many cousins, and mini schnauzer Caycee.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 11, 2023 downstairs from 1 pm – 5 pm at the Brewhouse in Helena, MT.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her memory to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society or a Schnauzer Rescue. When Angel Debbie arrived in Heaven she was greeted on the Rainbow Bridge by several Schnauzer companions – Genghis, Maddie, Boscoe, Kalvin, Molly; chocolate lab Lucy and of course Bart the Cat. They loved her and she loved them!
