David Mark Bernard was born on April 7, 1955, in Helena, MT to Elmer D. Bernard and Gwen S.
Bernard. David, or “Animal” as many fondly knew him, passed on August 5, 2023. He attended
elementary, junior high and high school in Helena. David worked in Helena his entire life,
beginning as a bouncer at local establishments, a construction worker, and retiring as a
concrete worker. He could be found Saturdays in the summer helping friends at the Farmer’s
Market. David liked to pay his monthly utility bills in person and shared his baked goods,
including his famous pumpkin bread, during the holidays with the utility company staff. David
was preceded in death by his parents and his St. Bernard, Bjorn, and his mean ole cat, Buzzy. He
is survived by his only son, Chris Moody (Crystal) and grandchildren, Presley, Connor, and Isaac;
his sister Debra Watson (Jim), niece Anna (Leland) and children, niece Ellen (Sam) and nephew
Tyler (Elly) and child; brother Dwight (Jane), niece Meghan (Alan) and children, nephew Doug
(Ashley) and children, nephew Jake (Carrie) and children. David is survived by many lifelong
friends including and not limited to Ed, Sara, Nancy, Mike, Craig, Susan, Emily, and all others.
When you have the opportunity to wear a funny or silly or slightly off-colored t-shirt, please
think of David. He would laugh out loud at such antics!
Please join family and friends at the rustic picnic shelter at the fairgrounds (by the playground)
on Tuesday, August 15th at 5:30PM to share a memory of David.
