Obituary

Tom Spooner, 82, of Helena, Montana passed away on December 20, 2024, at his home.

Tom was born on July 5, 1942, to Theresa and Ray Spooner. He was the fifth child, and was born in Livingston, Montana. His parents had three boys and three girls.

Tom attended High School in Livingston, Montana, and excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. After graduation, he joined the Navy with his best friend, Bill Kemp. While in the Navy, he became an electrician. After his time in the Navy, he worked for trucking companies, Wayne Waggoners, and then joined his Brother-in-Law, John Printz. Tom had fond memories of trucking with John.

Tom moved to Helena, Montana and went to work with Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Computer Programmer. He married and had two children, Mark, and Gina (or DD as he affectionately called her). He worked at Blue Cross until his retirement in 2003.

Tom married Barb Spooner (Kroll) on August 18, 2000. They were married for twenty-four years. They loved Nascar and took many trips to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Nascar races. They loved taking their motor home to Las Vegas, Lagoon in Utah, and Rapid City, South Dakota with family. Tom loved fishing and camping. He also loved to play pool and had a few city championships under his belt.

Tom loved to watch sports, and he really loved to watch football. He was a Rams fan, and a fan of the Montana State Bobcats. He loved to call his sisters, Shirley and Gracie and tease them about their teams. They loved the calls.

Tom's grandson Andrew followed in his grandfather's footsteps and joined the Navy and Grandpa Tom was so excited. He loved telling Andrew stories about his time in the Navy.

Tom is survived by his wife Barb, his son Mark Spooner, his daughter Gina Mannin, his sister Gracie Printz, Brother-In-Law John Printz, Sister-in-Law Pearl Spooner, and his Stepchildren Carrie, Joe, Jennifer, and John, as well as many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Theresa and Ray, Brother John Spooner, with wife Marlene and son Johnny, Brother Jim Spooner, Sister Margie with husband Richard and son Ronnie Scott, Sister Shirley Perin and husband Dale Perin and Niece Tammy Louise Printz.

Tom will be interred at Fort Harrison with military honors and the family will be having a private gathering to celebrate his life.
