Obituary

It's with great sadness that we announce the death of our loved one, Timothy J. Furshong, 72 years old. Tim's earthly journey ended on January 4th, 2025 at St. Peter's Hospital in Helena, with his best friend Randy Stauss by his side.

Born in Anaconda, Montana, April 26, 1952, Tim was the second of three sons born to Joseph B. and Doris Rightmer Furshong. He attended St. Paul's and Lincoln Grade Schools and graduated from Anaconda High in 1970. He attended one year at U of M, Missoula.

Growing up in Anaconda in the 1950's and 1960's meant spending many hours riding bikes and playing along the well-worn paths of Washoe Park and Warm Springs Creek. Most summers were spent with family and friends camping on the shores of Georgetown Lake. Plenty of time for hiking, water skiing, and mischief.

In the mid-1970s, Tim moved to Salt Lake City, where he would live for the next fifteen years. There, Tim worked at Olympus Cove Antiques, where he had the opportunity to grow in his lifelong passion and gift for antiques. Especially fine glassware.

Tim moved back to Montana in 1990 to care for his terminally ill mother, who died in early 1991. Tim stayed in the Helena area the rest of his life and made his living in gardening, landscaping, antique collecting and sales, house painting, and smoke and mold remediation. He had a wonderful interest in and knowledge of flowers and plants.

Tim's kindness and tenderheartedness often led to a hug for an elderly widow, caring for a friend going through an illness, or walking with elderly people through the last years of their lives. He was especially close to Gen Morgan in the latter years of her life.

Tim is survived by his two brothers Joe (Anna Wirth) Furshong and Jim (Barbara Clucas) Furshong. Nephews Matt (Alisa Opar), Gabe (Lauren Caldwell), and Luke Furshong. Niece Sarie Furshong Mathews (Daniel Mathews), great-nieces Chloe Mathews, and Eva Caldwell, great-nephews Christopher Mathews and Eliot Caldwell. Tim also leaves behind an aunt and many cousins.

A celebration of life will held early in the summer of 2025 in Helena. In lieu of flowers Tim encourages a donation to a charity of your choice.

Simple Cremation Montana has assisted the family.
