Obituary

Stephen Patrick Gurr of Helena Montana passed away Tuesday February 2 2021. He was born November 7 1967, quickly adopted by Anne and Chuck Gurr, and named in part after his maternal grandfather. Stephen grew up in Stamford and Hamden, Connecticut, playing baseball and competing on the high school swim team before joining the Army, where he served in the 82nd airborne from 1986 to 1989. He later became a nuclear medicine technologist through his hard work and dedication at Yale University, a job he held for several years in upstate New York where he met his wife Brielle, whom he married in 2009. He was widely known among family and friends as an irreverent prankster, whose mischievousness brought laughter to his loved ones. Stephen defeated cancer and joyfully celebrated the upcoming birth of his beloved niece in the Fall of 2019 before moving to Montana. A true outdoorsman who loved animals, Stephen enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and bird-watching. He spent the last months of his life in Montana, volunteering with a wildlife rescue center and hiking the mountains of Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. He is survived by his wife Brielle; his parents, Anne and Chuck Gurr; his younger sister Barbara and younger brother John; his brother-in-law Steve and sister-in-law Lisa; his nephew and godson Charlie, nieces Hailey and Melody, and nephews Mason, Zavian and Averix; his mother-in-law Julie (Squamie) and sisters-in-law Shanan and Kessley; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. His entire family, and everyone who knew him, will miss his sense of humor and the passion with which he lived his life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Stephen's name to Montana WILD:1420 E. 6th AvenueP.O.
