Sandra Jo Gast, 58, of Helena, Montana passed away in early January, 2026.
Sandy was born on June 19, 1967 to Robert and Joan (Plachta) Gast in Bay City, Michigan. She was the fourth of four children born to Big Bob and Joanie, and was often referred to as the 'oops baby' by her mother. Her much older brothers were Dennis, Patrick, and Michael.
In her early twenties, she moved west, where she eventually began a career with Home Depot. Sandy moved to Helena, Montana and was assistant manager at the new Helena Home Depot. Later, she became manager at that store, where she is still remembered fondly by many co-workers.
Sandy loved living in Helena. She decided to retire from Home Depot and she purchased Lakeside Market at Lake Hauser. She renovated the store, and it became a hub of the local community. It was a welcoming place for many morning coffee meetings, and served popular lunches of various homemade soups and sandwiches. Sandy is warmly remembered as being loving, generous, and willing to do anything for anyone.
Sandy, or as known by her family, Jo, Jo-Jo, and Sandy Jo, was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest brother, Dennis. Jo is survived by her brothers Patrick and his wife Patty, and Michael and his wife Laura. Aunt Jo practically adopted her much loved niece and nephews: Brian, Molly, Alex and Max.
She is very much missed by her life-long friend Patty Jo (Hayes) McIver, and Patty's children Lance and Shannon. Jo-Jo had a large extended family, and leaves many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sandy had so many close friends who are struggling with her loss as well.
We all miss you.
