Ruth Alene Halsema of Helena, MT died with family present on January 20, 2024. She was 93 years old.

In 1930, Ruth was born to Otis and Minnie Peden in Lafayette, IN. She graduated from Jefferson High School and later married Martin Miller. Together they had four children. Ruth worked as a nurse aide at St. Elizabeth and Soldiers Home Hospitals. Later in life Ruth married Frank Halsema. Upon Frank's death, Ruth moved to Mesa, AZ. While living in Mesa, Ruth worked as an in-home health care aide. With the support of family, Ruth moved to Helena, MT in 2014.

Ruth is survived by her children, Jeff (Jeannette) Miller of Helena, MT; Lysa Miller of Aiken, SC; Greg Miller of Gilbert, AZ; and David (Beth) Halsema of Lafayette, IN; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her son, Bradley Miller.

Ruth enjoyed long walks and was a voracious reader. She had fond memories of camping and boating on the Wabash and Tippecanoe rivers. She enjoyed watching many sporting events but none more than her beloved Arizona Diamondbacks. Ruth will be missed by many who enjoyed her quick wit and banter which remained until her death.

Cremation has taken place in Helena, MT. She will be interred in Lafayette, IN at a later date. Simple Cremation Montana has assisted the family.
