Obituary

Rose Lee "Penny" Abrahamson of Helena, MT passed away on March 4, 2025. She was 83 years old. Rose was born on March 30, 1941 in Shawmut, MT to Dixie Lee (Reynolds) and Lonnie Penrose "Rosie"Walker. When Rose was born, the doctor looked at her and said that her eyes looked like two big pennies and that is how she got the nickname Penny.

Rose went to live in Helena, MT with her maternal grandparents, Betsy and Roland Reynolds, at the age of 5 months. In high school she worked in retail, and in the office for the Power Townsend Hardware store where she learned some book-keeping skills. After graduating from High School in 1959, Rose went to work for the State of Montana Highway Department as a data entry operator on an IBM card punch machine. It was during that time, she met Ken Abrahamson, who worked for IBM repairing card punch machines, and they started dating. They were married on January 20, 1962. They had four sons. Rose stayed at home to raise their four boys. Once the boys were old enough, Rose returned to work for the State of Montana in the Social and Rehabilitation Services Department. She worked there until she retired in 2012. Ken and Rose were married for over 62 years at the time of Ken's passing.

Rose was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and her husband Ken. She is survived by her brother Roland "Pete" Walker and his family, her four sons and their spouses - David (Michelle), James (Nicole), Gary (Ann), and Michael (Wendi), 3 grandchildren - Jordin (Fiancé James), Mikaela (Brandon) Uhl, Kevin (Lesya) Abrahamson, and 4 great grandchildren- Sofia, Ben, Ryan, and Dawson Uhl.

Rose enjoyed exploring family genealogy and reading. She had a generous heart and loved her family. In memory of Rose, the family requests contributions to be made to Helena Food Share.

A brief internment service will be held on April 18, 2025 at Fort Harrison Cemetery.
