Obituary

Rod Richardson, of Helena, MT, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020 at theFort Harrison Veteran's Hospital. He was born June 1, 1946 to Ray and FredaRichardson in Billings, Montana. Rod spent a lot of his childhood on hisGrandparents' farm and ranch, often speaking fondly of all the memories. Rodgraduated high school from Billings Senior High and went on to attend college at theUniversity of Montana on a tennis scholarship; receiving his Bachelor's in Historyand his Master's in Economics. In November of 1969, Rod enlisted with the US Armyand proudly served his country in Vietnam with the 101 st Airborne Division. In April1971, Rod married LaDonna Barger in Billings, Montana and the two togethercreated a loving, adventurous lifestyle that took the family to Oregon, Colorado andeventually back home to Montana. Rod had a successful career with the phonecompany starting as a payphone coin collector, working his way up to a regionaldirector and ultimately retiring after 30 years. After retirement, Rod and LaDonnaenjoyed traveling as often as they could. They took their 5 th wheel to Arizona,Mexico, up to Alaska, and all over Oregon and Montana. Rod was an avidoutdoorsman with a passion for hunting, fly fishing, and camping with his family.He played tennis his whole life, and was a Harley enthusiast. He understood thevalue of the "little things" and had a knack for not taking life too seriously. Rod lovedspending time with this family, especially with his grandkids Brooke & Reddek.Whether it was a weekend camping trip, watching his grandkids' play sports, or aBBQ, he never turned down a chance to spend time with his family.Rod will be missed for his infectious laugh, witty sense of humor, and true love oflife. We hope you're in peace, riding your Harley to the next fishing spot.Rod is survived by his wife of 50 years, LaDonna Richardson (Helena, MT); his son,Rawlin Richardson and his wife Jannice, and grandkids, Brooke and Reddek(Jefferson City, MT); his daughter Brenna Richardson (Helena, MT).Military services and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The familywould like to thank the nurses and medical staff at the Fort Harrison VA for theirdedicated care and kindness.
