Obituary

Robert Francis Liffring Born June 6, 1943, Butte Montana

Robert "Bob" Liffring was born in Butte in 1943. He spent his early years in Butte and eventually moved to Missoula with his mother and sister. He went to elementary, high school and college in Missoula. He graduated the University of Montana and married Ms. Audrey Robinson in 1966.

They moved to Denver, then to Fort McClellan Alabama where, Bob served as a Chemical Officer. Upon leaving the Army they moved to Maryland where he worked as a statistician for GEOMET.

He longed for home an eventually moved to Seattle then Helena. He lived in Helena on and off for 45 years and held numerous jobs. He was a printer, statistician for the Department of Justice, the Bureau of Indian affairs, and the Department of Labor. He was a carpenter, author, truck driver, and bar owner.

He was an avid reader. He would complete two to three books a week and the pass them down to his son Andy to read. He loved true stories and biographies and would often fall asleep to a good story on audio books.

He loved the outdoors; fishing in the lakes and looking for rocks. His favorite places to go included Crow Creek Lakes, the Tizers, and of Course Gypsy lake.

He loved to fish until his eye site deteriorated to the point he could no longer see the end of the fishing line. Then he enjoyed riding along and reading his book while other fished around him.

When he was not out fishing, he was collecting rocks. He enjoyed going through the tailings piles of the old mines looking for specimens to place in his rock collection. He would dig out his rocks and show anyone who cared and quiz people on type of rocks he had found.

Most of all he loved to play poker and made many friends across the west playing poker. He spent his summer in Montana and would go to Laughlin Nevada every winter. He loved the thrill of winning big hands and would always tell stories of how he played certain hands.

Bob was a lot of things and a true character. He will be sorely missed.
