IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert "Bob"
Florindo Bachini
July 7, 1933 – April 24, 2024
Robert "Bob" Bachini (age 90) left his earthly body on April 24, 2024. He joins his wife Shirley, parents Albertina and Vasco, "mom" Anastasia, infant sister Mary Louise and many beloved cousins and friends who passed before him. A Havre native, Bob was born on July 7, 1933, part of a close-knit Italian-American immigrant community. In 1956, he married his love Shirley (Levengood), and later had their only child Linda. Shortly after retiring, they moved to Helena where they helped raise their three grandchildren. In their golden years, Bob and Shirley enjoyed wintering in Lake Havasu, Arizona, where they formed many lasting friendships and rekindled others. Bob was a man of the people, dedicating his career to service. He worked the railroad for Great Northern (now Burlington Northern Santa Fe) 1957-1995—Havre was, after all, a railroad town. He served six terms in the Montana State legislature as a Representative, including terms as Chairman of the House Business & Industry Committee and House Agriculture Committee. He continued his advocacy as a lobbyist for various trade associations, senior citizen groups, and MSU Northern. He was a liaison to the US Railroad Retirement Board and a local legislative representative for the United Transportation Union. Beyond his professional life, Bob was known for his active participation in the community. He was a longtime booster and board member of the NMC Foundation, engaged in United Way campaigns, and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and the Friendship Center. He was always ready to lend a hand, though there were moments when we questioned his methods—like driving 60 miles to buy potatoes for God's Love shelter or teaching his 12-year-old grandson to drive in his old 1968 Chevy pick-up truck, on the highway, loaded with landscaping rock on repeat trips to the quarry near Townsend. But above all, Bob was a warm soul who loved life. His joy for people came through in light-hearted banter and wisecracks that kept the room chuckling—including a sense of humor that remained even as his memory faded in later years. He was famous for his very distinct sayings or "Bobisms"—if he hadn't called you "partner," he hadn't met you yet. And he was well known for being "thrifty," and made toilet paper hoarding popular long before the Covid era. Bob danced through his last decade, literally, as time and dementia faded his inhibitions. We are eternally grateful to Beehive North staff and community for providing quality and joy to his last years. Bob is survived by his daughter, Linda Crofts (Rob); siblings Teri Bussey and Dick Bachini; sister-in-law Sharon (and family); grandson Ross Miranti (Sarah); granddaughters, Cara Uribe (Johnatan) and Gina Miranti Mistry (Sunil); and great- grandchildren, Matteo, Soleio, Avi, Lucy, Veda, Yuna, and Silvio. A memorial gathering will be held in July. In lieu of flowers, Bob would have appreciated donations to Covenant United Methodist Church, The Friendship Center, Helena Food Share, or a charity of your choice. See ya later, partner! Simple Cremation Montana has assisted the family.
