Richard "Dick" Owen Nelson of Helena Mt passed away at his home Monday, October 24, 2022.

Dick was born to Owen and Jeannine Nelson in Duluth Minnesota on August 17, 1948

He lived in Minnesota until his family moved to Montana in 1954. In 1969 he married his first wife, Marcia, and they had two children, Mark and Elizabeth. Dick married his second wife, Jane, in 1991. Dick had a career with the National Guard until he retired as a Major after many years of service. Throughout his life, Dick was an avid outdoorsman who loved skiing, boating, snowmobiling, camping, fishing, and hunting. He was also a grill master and often grilled up delicious game for friends and family. After retirement, Dick enjoyed entering fishing competitions and walking the Montana countryside.

Dick is survived by his mother, Jeannine Nelson, Helena MT; son, Mark (Jennifer) Nelson, Spearfish SD; daughter, Elizabeth (Adam Tyma) Nelson, Omaha NE; grandsons, Alex and Adam Nelson, Spearfish SD; sisters, Lyn (Kathy) Nelson, Cindy (Gene) Bukowski, and Diane (Kim) Bares; his nephew and 4 nieces that were all very special to him; 5 great-nephews and great-nieces, and a dear friend, Matt Fischer.

Dick was preceded in death by his father, Owen Nelson.

Memorial services in  Helena on June 2nd, 2023 at 10:00 AM for interment at Montana State Veterans Cemetery, with a reception to follow at 11:00 AM at Simple Cremation Montana, 648 N Jackson Street.
