Obituary

Richard Lee Subry (Dick), of Helena, MT died peacefully in his home on June 13, 2026 with his wife, Kathy and daughter Hannah at his side. He was 90 years old.

Dick was born on December 5, 1935 in Denver, CO he was the only child born to Phillip and Lois Subry. Dick grew up in Denver, graduating from South High School in 1954. He completed ROTC and was honorably discharged from the Army Reserves with the rank of Sargent.

Dick met his wife at the Church of Christ in Helena MT and married on April 16, 1990. They were married 32 years and enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, playing cards, traveling and just being together.

He is survived by his wife Kathy Subry (Felton); his son Danny Subry (Linda) of Denver CO, daughters Debbie Johnson (Keith) of Denver, CO, Theresa Vendegnia (George) of Denver, CO, sons John Subry (Pamela) of Denver, CO, and David Subry of San Diego, CA; and daughter Hannah Subry of Helena, MT. Also, his two stepsons CJ Selby (Dee) of Oklahoma City, OK and Bobby Selby (Katie Grady-Selby) of Helena, MT. he had twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Phillip and Lois Subry.

Dick was a self-taught man of many talents; he ended his very successful career as a computer consultant under his business Landaire Sales, dba RLS Consulting. He was always an entrepreneur.

One of his greatest life achievements was forming the Rocky Mountain Christian Institute, and building the Missouri River Christian Camp in Dearborn, MT, where he spent many summers bringing his vision to life for a Christian environment and a space where churches could gather together to hold retreats and be able to join together in building a relationship with our Lord and Savior. He was a long-time member of the South Hills Church of Christ and had many brothers and sisters in Christ.

He was actively involved with Dr. Brad Harrub, of Focus Press in Franklin, TN, creating a science textbook with a Biblical worldview called “Science-Examining the Evidence-Biology.” He was instrumental in sponsoring the textbook and was inspired for the teaching of our youth at the early stages of their education.

He loved photography, to build and fly model airplanes/helicopters, and was a long-time member of the Helena Flying Tigers, he enjoyed HO model trains specifically the Great Northern Line, building model ships and had many more hobbies.

A funeral is scheduled for June 27, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at the South Hills Church of Christ, 2294 Deerfield Lane, Helena, MT 59601, Lance Love will officiate the celebration of life. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dick’s life.
