Patricia Ann
Hand
July 10, 1955 – May 20, 2026
After a long battle with chronic health issues, Patricia Hand passed away peacefully in Helena on May 20, 2026. Patty was comforted in her final hours by her son Matthew and a dedicated team of care givers. She was 70 years old.
Patty was born in Helena on July 10, 1955 to James and Darlene Hand. She grew up in the family’s home on Helena’s west side in the shadow of Mount Helena and Hawthorne Elementary where she attended grade school. She graduated from Helena High in 1973.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents James and Darlene Hand. She is survived by her son Matthew Goldsworthy (Mandie) and her life partner Ed Goldsworthy, both of Helena, as well as her sister Robyn Hand (Butte) and brothers Jim Hand (Valerie - Windsor, CO) and Dave Hand (Becky - East Helena).
Despite deteriorating health and limited mobility during the past several years, Patty continued to enjoy a full and happy life thanks to the kindness and compassion of caregivers at the Masonic Home and Cooney Healthcare. Most recently at Cooney, Patty could often be found making the rounds in her wheel chair and participating in the many activities offered there. She was particularly fond of coloring, musical entertainment, and Bingo!
Patty was a kind and loving soul who could warm the room with an infectious giggle or laugh. Though normally on the quiet side, those who knew her can attest to her persistence in certain situations. In contrast with her unassuming nature, she would occasionally express a bolder side of her personality in the form of tattoos, hair style, and even hair color. This seemed to endear her even more to the people around her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the care Patty received from the staff and caregivers at Cooney Health Care and St. Peters Hospice. These people do amazing work in a challenging environment. Thank you so much.
Family members are planning a small memorial service in the Helena area this summer.
