Obituary

August 28, 1928 witnessed the birth of a truly gentle soul – Alice Nadine Moody. At age 3, Nadine and her mother, Sylvia, moved from Oklahoma to California where they began a new chapter in their lives. Sylvia remarried and Nadine’s new stepdad, Sayed Amir who had emigrated from Afghanistan after World War I, was the only father she really knew. Nadine’s maiden name was changed to Amir and so began a lifelong affair with the Afghan people and culture.

While attending U. C. Berkley, Nadine met Mohammad A Kazimi, also from Afghanistan, who was a student at Stanford University. They fell in love and planned to marry, but Nadine’s dad insisted that she see what life in an underdeveloped, remote, and materially poor country would have in store for her. This led to a six month visit to Afghanistan by Nadine and her parents in 1949. Upon returning to the U.S., Nadine and Mohammad were married. After completing his studies, Mohammad and Nadine returned to Afghanistan to raise a family and work toward the modernization of that country. However, due to the communist takeover of the government and subsequent invasion of Afghanistan by the Soviet Union in 1979, Nadine and her husband were forced to leave and settled in Denver, Colorado where their four children resided. A few years after the death of her husband, Nadine moved to Helena, Montana in 2005 to be near her eldest son and grandchildren.

Nadine lived a life of grace, always able to find the very best in every person and every situation she encountered. She was an inspiration of what it is to be a strong, forward thinking woman. Everyone who met her was touched by her positive approach to life. She was a pacifist, quiet and gentle, avoiding unnecessary conflict - yet was always there for the underdog and the weak. A voracious reader, she read anything and everything that was well written and enjoyed discussing literature, art, and world events. She was an avid bridge player, a crossword enthusiast, and an accomplished stain glass artist.

Nadine’s personality and gentleness were timeless. A mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she will be missed by all who knew her, but the memories she left with us will never fade.

On December 22, 2025, Nadine in her quiet, serene way slipped out of this world to discover new horizons.

The extended Kazimi family would like to thank you for all your kind thoughts and support. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any of Nadine’s favorite charities: Habitat for Humanity, Feeding America, and Human Rights First.

A celebration of her life will be held in late spring.
