Merle Scott Carpenter went to be with the Lord on December 16, 2021, after a battle with cancer. His wife, youngest son, and Pastor were there beside him in his final hours, He was 59 years young.He was born on September 16, 1962, in Colorado Springs Colorado to Carolyn and Merle Carpenter. Merle had one brother Allen (Jay) Carpenter. Merle married his high school sweetheart Marilyn in March 1981 and had two children, Michael (born 1980) and Cherie (born in 1982). Unfortunately this marriage did not last, and they divorced in 1985. Six years later he met his second and final wife Tammy Conrad. They were married in Las Vegas in 1991. Merle's father passed away in 1993 at the young age of 53. The next year his third child was born, Casey (born 1994). Merle and Tammy moved to Helena, Montana in 1995. Devin was born soon after that in 1996 . Merle was a professional chef and kitchen manager for many years. He loved helping people and worked hard to provide for his family. There was almost nothing that he could not fix or build. His mother passed away in December of 2013. It was at this point that Merle retired from the restaurant industry and began working as a handyman for people around town. He helped restore the Gehring ranch north of Helena, that raises cattle and Buffalo. He worked in Property management for the final years of his life, managing the Tower Hill apartments and was admired by many of the tenants. He was very proud of all of his children and took any opportunity to help them. Merle was a Deacon in his church and the definition of upstanding citizen in the public eye. He will be greatly missed and has left a legacy of "being my brother's keeper". He was preceded in death by both of his parents. Merle has left behind his brother (Allen (Jay) Carpenter of Vermont), his wife of 30 years (Tammy of Helena Montana), an ex-wife (Marilyn Walton of Colorado Springs), four children: Michael of Colorado Springs, Cherie of Colorado Springs, Casey of Colorado Springs, and Devin of Helena, Montana, as well as seven grand children and 6 great grandchildren (a 7th on the way) . A Celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church of Montana (on the corner of Eighth and Warren (date to be determined).
