Melvin Palmer Drake, 87, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026.
Melvin was born on December 7, 1938, and was raised in Wibaux, Montana. He was the son of Hulda Bacon and Fred Drake and was later raised by his stepfather, Roy Bacon.
Melvin married the love of his life, Joyce Marie Wicka, and together they built a family filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
From a very young age, Melvin developed a strong work ethic. He began working while growing up in Wibaux, Montana, before moving to Chelan, Washington. He later settled in Livingston, Montana, where he began providing for his family, and eventually worked in Dillon, Montana. Throughout his life, he was known for his dedication, perseverance, and commitment to providing for those he loved.
Melvin enjoyed playing chess, golfing, fishing, and especially loved ice cream. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures and treasured every moment spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by his two children, Marvin Drake and his wife, Becky Drake, and Jeanette Drake Aafedt and her husband, Shawn Aafedt.
He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Eric Aafedt, Anthony Drake, Gavin Drake, Lindsay Kerr, Danielle Drake, Dylan Aafedt, and Malinda Aafedt; his cherished great-grandchildren, Anja Kerr and Keenan Drake; his sister, Diane Drake Nelson; his brother, John Bacon; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Hulda Bacon and Fred Drake; his stepfather, Roy Bacon; his beloved wife, Joyce Drake; and his brother, David Drake.
Above all, Melvin was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His greatest legacy is the family he loved so deeply and the values of hard work, kindness, and perseverance that he passed on to them. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
