Helena, MT - Maxwell (Max) Whitehead Stephan, 24, died on August 31, 2021, in Helena, Montana. He was born on November 27, 1996 in Phoenix, Arizona to Nichelle Whitehead and Mark Stephan. Growing up Max attended schools throughout the Phoenix area and graduated from Sunnyslope High School in 2015, where he was an outstanding member of the varsity football team. Following graduation Max pursued studies in history and philosophy, most recently attending the University of Arizona in Tucson.Growing up he loved spending summers with his extended family and grandparents in Ohio. He loved nature, camping, backpacking, football and hanging out with his team mates. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his exceptional and inquisitive mind, and his strong and sweet spirit.Max is survived by his mother Nichelle Whitehead-Collins (Robert) and father Mark Stephan (Vy) of Phoenix; brother Miles Stephan; half-sister Milan and half-brother Mitchell; step brothers Cameron and Ryan Collins; aunt Andrea Hixon (Blake) of Ashland, Ohio; aunt Kristin Whitehead of Ironton, Ohio; aunt Neely Lewis (Jesse) of Phoenix; aunt Jenny Hunter (Peter) of Portland, Oregon;uncle PJ Minnillo (Mary) of Cincinnati; uncle Chris Minnillo of Cleveland, Ohio; and his cousins Avery, Beck, Sascha, Elijah, Emma, Sophia and Jacob. He is also survived by his grandmother (Nana) Sharon Whitehead of Ironton, Ohio; also survived by grandfather Paul Stephan (Laura) of Cleveland Ohio. He is preceded in death by his grandfather (Papaw) Mike Whitehead and grandmother Cynthia Stephan.The memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the Valley Garden Center, 1809 N. 15th Ave. Masks are required regardless of vaccination status.
