Mary Schilla, 82, of Helena passed away on May 19, 2026, at Bee Hive Homes in Helena. She was born October 16, 1943, in Helena to Elmer and Madge (Travis) Plettenberg. She grew up in East Helena.

In April of 1963, Mary married John "Jack" Schilla. The couple lived in Helena, raised two daughters, and later went their separate ways.

Mary had a long, satisfying career as an accountant at the Montana Department of Labor and Industry until she retired at age 57.

Mary is survived by her sister Diane Smith who is married to Ronald "Dee" Smith of Montana City; daughter Suzanne Moore who is married to Randy Moore of Big Timber; daughter Nina Fonk who is married to Barry Fonk of Helena; and grandchildren, Reed Moore, Charli Moore, and Sam Moore.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Madge (Travis) Plettenberg; and her brother, William "Bill" Plettenberg.

A celebration of Mary's life is scheduled for 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, at the VFW in East Helena in the basement reception space. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary's life.
