Leroy G. Zent of Helena, MT passed away peacefully at home after a short illness on December 21, 2025. He was 75 years old.
Leroy was born in Mandan, ND. At 18, he moved to Bottineau, ND and got an Associate’s degree in Forestry. He then transferred to Missoula, MT where he earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Montana.
Leroy married Karen Regan in 1975 and they had two children, Michael and Abigail.
He worked for the US Forest Service and spent 33+ years in the military (US Marine Corps, Montana Air National Guard, Portland Air National Guard) before he was retired. At the time of his death he was working for Helena Food Share.
Leroy spent much of his life volunteering at various locations including several fire departments, PBS, Habitat for Humanity, and Food Share.
Leroy loved woodworking, reading, mechanics, cooking, studying history, traveling, and spoiling his cats.
Leroy is survived by his wife, Karen of Helena and his son Michael (Barb) of Billings. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Abigail; his parents, John and Ann Zent; and his brother Richard.
A Celebration of Life and open house will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 1:00-4:00 pm in the community room at Helena Food Share. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wild About Cats Rescue & Sanctuary or Helena Food Share.
