Leo Mose
Calcaterra
February 23, 1933 – April 6, 2026
Leo Calcaterra was born on February 23, 1933, in Butte, Montana, to Peperino and Lidia (Vanina) Calcaterra and passed away after a short illness on April 6, 2026, at the age of 93 in Helena.
Leo was raised on the family dairy farm, Elgin Dairy in Elk Park, alongside his sister, Joan (Bill) Filpula and three cousins. He graduated from Butte High School in 1951. On October 25, 1958, he married the love of his life, Delores Jean Seymour, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Butte, Montana. Throughout their more than 57 years together, they were blessed with five children and shared many challenges, triumphs, and cherished memories along the way.
Leo’s strong work ethic was evident throughout his life. His work history included working on the dairy ranch, delivering the milk to homes and businesses, working at Ashton printing, bartending, and working in construction. He later owned and operated his own business, Calco Construction in Butte, alongside his son Dan until he retired and moved to Canyon Ferry.
Leo also enjoyed the outdoors and time spent with family. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, boating, bowling, gardening, wine making and water skiing. He especially loved spending time at his “cabin” on Canyon Ferry Lake with family and friends where he taught generations of children the joys of being on the water. He attended the NFR in Las Vegas for over 20 years, and in recent years went to PBR events in Billings with his children—memories that will be treasured by all who shared them.
Leo lived a long and meaningful life, marked by dedication to his family, hard work, and a quiet strength that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He was a man of simple joys and deep values, someone who found happiness in time spent with loved ones and took pride in the life he built.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, his wisdom, and the love he shared so freely. Whether through stories, laughter, or the comfort of simply being together, Leo created memories that will be cherished for generations.
Leo now reunites with those who went before him, including his beloved wife, Jean, whom he missed dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons-in-law, Charles E. May and Norman Isaac; his great-granddaughter, Raegan Perroux; as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He is survived by his children: Liane May of Butte; Dan (Terrie) Calcaterra of Butte; Lori Isaac of Helena; Lisa (Jay) Raymond of Helena; and Mike (Lynette) Calcaterra of Helena; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. His loving extended family will continue to honor his legacy through the values he instilled and the love he gave so generously.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Simple Cremation Montana and Sunset Funeral Services of Helena. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 25, 2026, from Noon to 3 p.m. at Schooners (formerly Yacht Basin) located at 7035 Canyon Ferry Road, Helena, MT. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
A life well lived, a man well loved, and a legacy that will never be forgotten.
