Obituary

Kacey F. Collins was born in September of 1950 in John Day, Oregon to Merle Lee Collins & Juanita Hayes Collins. Kacey passed away at the age of 71 from a prolonged illness on January 26, 2022 while being surrounded by his family. His mother named him after the saddle bronc rider Casey Tibbs, & the middle initial "F" stands for "the first twin out the chute." Growing up in Whitepine Creek in Thompson Falls made the perfect setting for the kids' to practice their roping skills on some local deer that were later spotted trending the family brand when they passed through the checkpoint. The mischievous experiments ranged anything from sleeping chickens to roping bears. He came from a long line of old Oregon pioneer ancestors making him a man of many trades. Everything from logger & over the road driver, to managing gravel pits in Colorado & Oregon, equipment operator & even bar tender. While tending bar at the Thompson River Ranch, he met Marsha. The two later on served as Watkins first sleeper team & made many hauls together. He served in the National Guard for 7 years before working on a gold mine in Nevada. After the mine, he settled down in Helena, MT to operate A-1 Towing & Recovery for 24 years with his wife. His obsession with flying started with powered parachutes, & he later earned his pilots license. In 2010 he took up cooking, 2017 he & Marsha took up cowboy action shooting but dancing was always in his "jeans." If there was a good beat, his toes were tapping. While Sierra was in high school, he took on another occupation as a rodeo girl's chauffeur. Once she started hauling on her own, he was promoted to fleet manager & made several successful rescue missions to keep her going down the road. Eventually they sold A-1 Towing in 2019 to enjoy a brief retirement. When it came to equipment, there wasn't anything on rubber or tracks he couldn't drive, fix or get a full day's work out of. His rodeo stew will never taste the same, there will be that extra space on the dance floor, & an empty seat in the truck.Kacey is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marsha Collins. Daughters, Sierra Collins & Kacey Dziekonski (Chance.) Step-mother, Nancy Strandquist (Herb.) His nieces, Tracy Ward, Kari Lee (Koty,) Katelyn Ward, Jennifer Metcalf (Nick.) His sisters' Ginger Ward & Shannon (Roger,) brothers' Tim & Kelly. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ethan Miller & Ashtyn Dziekonski. Cousin Mike Bartley (Terry,) & grand nieces/nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law, Wes Ward, his beloved nephew, Cody Ward in October 2020 & his future son-in-law, LeRoy McLaren in October 2021. Sierra & Marsha are very grateful to the McLaren's/McLane's for bringing them into the family as their own since day one. The family would like to thank all the friends' & neighbors who have helped out during this difficult time. Thank you to St. Pete's Hospice & all of the staff at Legacy Assisted Living who have shown great care & compassion. A big thank you to the towing community who has been along for the ride.
