Joyce Furtney, 87, of Helena Montana died peacefully just the way she wished, in her home, and in her own bed the morning of September 8, 2022.

Joyce was born on October 12 , 1934, and was the youngest of four siblings. At a young age Joyce married Jim Rose of Helena and they had two daughters, Kathy and Vicki. The marriage lasted 17 years and afterwards Joyce moved to California to live with her brother. While in California Joyce met and married the love of her life Harold (Hal) Furtney. Together they had a son Robert. In 1977 they moved back to Helena. Their lives were forever changed when Hal died suddenly in 1989.

Joyce was a devote Christian, loved gospel music, was an avid gardener, lover of all animals, and especially enjoyed listening to the song of the meadowlark. She loved her family with all of her heart and was fully devoted to them. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center weekly and enjoyed the company of Fritz Heiser. They were great friends and travel companions. Fritz always referred to her as his "neat little lady".

Joyce is survived by her daughters Kathy (Mike) Rhoades of Helena, Vicki Ratchye of Alaska and Rob (Jenn) Furtney of Helena. Grandchildren, Renee, Steven, Jennifer, Casandra and Robbie, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens at noon on Tuesday September 13, with a reception to follow at the home of her son.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her name to the Lewis and Clark County Humane Society.
