Joseph Donald Cross, 84, a fourth-generation Montanan, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025 at 3:08 am

Joe proudly served his community as a career firefighter with the Helena Fire Department. He was a devoted husband, father, and loyal friend. An avid outdoorsman, many days for him were filled fishing, hunting, and camping in the Montana wilderness.

Joe had an affinity for people, animals, and music which was reflected in his various pursuits. Some of his happiest moments came as a horseman, gentleman farmer, and curator of a once massive personal collection of vinyl records.

He is survived by his wife, Carla Cross; his sons, Keith (Wife, Tina) Cross, Kenneth Cross, and Kelly Cross; and his grandchildren, Danny and Chris Ricci. He is also survived by his siblings, Dick Cross, Mary-Ann Wenstrom, Candy Lyman, and Tammy Farris. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Roy Cross and Ann "Maxine" (Brashear) Cross.

According to his wishes, no formal services will be held. A celebration of life will be announced later.
