IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Steven
Grand
January 6, 1941 – February 28, 2026
J. Steven Grand of East Helena passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the age of 85 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena.
Steve was born on January 6, 1941, in Denver, Colorado, to Solange (Thiebaut) and J. Charles Grand. He was the younger brother of Allen and the older brother of Vicki. Steve graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in Denver, where he served as an altar boy and was active in football, basketball and several organizations, including debate. He also served as president of the ski club.
He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1962 with a degree in business. In 1964, he married Shannon Burdick, and together they had two daughters, Liza and Kelly. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Steve began his professional career with IBM, which took him to Montana and California. Throughout his life, he possessed a strong entrepreneurial spirit and owned and operated restaurants, several computer businesses, and a furniture store.
He later met his lifelong partner, Diane Fisher, and they married in 1980. They returned to California, where Steve worked in the computer industry for several years before moving to Washington state to once again pursue his own business venture. Steve and Diane owned and operated multiple computer-related businesses and enjoyed the extensive travel that came with their work during their nearly 46 years of marriage.
They also shared a love of cooking. Homemade pasta, Caesar salad, and cheesecake were among the specialties family and friends enjoyed.
A lifelong golfer, Steve spent time as a caddy in his younger years. He was an avid reader and could complete even the most difficult crossword puzzle in pen. Steve was incredibly smart, with a quick, sarcastic wit, a playful nature, and a great laugh that was unmistakably his.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane; daughters Liza Grand-Luke (Neil) and Kelly (Eric) Morrow; grandsons Eric (Jessika) Luke and Kyle (Grace) Morrow; granddaughters Alex Luke and Morgan Morrow; great-grandson Nico Luke; brother Allen (Alma) Grand; sister Vicki (Bob) Voth; nieces; and Diane’s large extended family.
A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
