Obituary

Jeannette Ruth Stevenson was born August 2, 1935, to Edith and Paul Davis in Camden, New Jersey. She was the eldest of 4 girls, enjoying her sisters Carol, Beatrice and Barbara. Jeannette was predeceased by Carol and Beatrice, her parents and her third son, Jimmy, who lived only 12 hours. Jeannette was laid to rest by our Heavenly Father on June 27, 2024, In Helena, MT.

Jeannette's childhood helped build her faith in Jesus. Her family moved to Pennsylvania when she was quite young. They then moved to California where her faithful mom had to face raising her 4 girls herself. Grandma Davis toiled tirelessly to provide for her little ones. When Jeannette was old enough, she helped care for her younger sisters and cousins. Through this experience, Jeannette came to realize how important it was to be able to independently provide for herself and her family, so after graduating from Monterey Bay Academy, where she met Harley Stevenson, she pursued higher education at Paradise Valley, graduating as a registered nurse. She patiently waited for Harley to serve our country as an Army medic and for him to complete his nursing degree. They married in November 1956. Theirs was a blessed marriage of 67 years.

Jeannette was involved in the SDA church all through her 88 years. She taught K classes and in Dorcus. She loved leading children's story and was a deaconess as well as a treasurer. Being a fabulous cook, Jeannette nourished her family, friends and church. She was an expert canner and taught her daughters and sons the how-tos of canning produce from their Dad's gardens and orchards. Baking bread was a weekly family activity.

The love for God through nature was passed on to her children. Jeannette loved to camp, hike and bike ride while worshipping God in His creation.

Crocheting, knitting, sewing and quilting were pursuits that she enjoyed, making gifts for others. One of her last crochet projects was to craft an afghan for each of her children. Wherever she traveled, she always had a project going.

Jeannette was a woman who loved Jesus Christ and walked in the path He made for her. She knew His face would be the face she would see next when He Laid her to rest. She prayed for each of her children and grandchildren each day and encouraged them to stay in faith. Jeannette rose each day at 5:30 to worship her best friend Jesus. She led her family in hymns and prayer. She quizzed them in Bible trivia. Her prayers continue through the Holy Spirit.

Before her passing, Jeannette lost the use of her hands and was in pain, yet just 3 weeks before she passed, she figured their tithe for the Lord and wrote on a pad to stay responsible with tithe to Jesus. She never forgot a loved one's birthday, sending a heartfelt card. She always put others first. Jeannette was a godly woman who through God had an influential life. She lived for Jesus.
