Janece Carolyn Welton Johnson passed away quietly in her husband's arms on May 21, 2025. She was born on July 26, 1936, in Townsend, Montana to Earl and Sadie Welton.
She and her siblings experienced early childhood living at US Forest Service Stations in Wisdom, Nine Mile/Alberton, Libby, Billings, and Livingston, where their father was a US Forest Ranger.
After graduating from high school, she completed a business degree at the University of Montana and later completed her master's degree at Whitworth University in Washington State.
She began teaching business subjects in Choteau and Great Falls High Schools before moving to Spokane, Washington where she began a 30-year teaching career at Spokane Community College. She was active in civic and professional organizations where she gained lifelong friends.
In 2002 Janece reconnected with Howard Johnson, a friend from early college days. They were married and established a home in Helena, Montana. During the following twenty plus years, they enjoyed activities with friends and family, including travels around Montana and abroad.
Janece loved her many friends, and she made great effort to maintain contact with all of them until she was no longer able to due to health conditions.
Janece is survived by her husband, Howard Johnson and her nephew, Todd Welton, of Corona, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Noel, and her sister Sue.
The family is very grateful to the care team at St Peter's Health, including Hospice and several very special nurses. Memorials in Janece's name are suggested to St Peter's Hospice, Helena, MT.
