JAMES E. FRAZER, PhD, 76, ended his valiant battle with cancer on January 24, 2025. Born in Bethlehem, PA on July 22, 1948, Jim was adopted by the Frazers in 1958 and soon moved to Saxon's River, VT, where he attended Vermont Academy, graduating in 1968. He then attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, graduating with a degree in Sociology. At William Penn he met the love of his life, Sharon (Hill) Frazer and they were married in 1974 at Valley Mills Friends Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.. He earned his Masters' Degree in School Psychology from Indiana University in 1977. In 1978 and 1981 he and Sharon welcomed their two children, Anne and Ted. In 1989 he earned his PhD in School Psychology from Ball State University, and used his degree to better the lives of children with emotional disabilities in Indiana and Kentucky.
He taught psychology for Indiana University, Purdue University, and Ivy Tech in Indiana, retiring in 2010. He spent his retirement traveling with his wife and family to destinations as varied as Russia, Mexico, Nova Scotia and the Bahamas, and 49 of the 50 states. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and two granddaughters, Eleanor and Lucille.
In 2020, he and Sharon moved from Indiana to Helena, Montana to be closer to their family. He enjoyed traveling Montana, reading, writing, playing Chess, learning foreign languages, and spending time with his family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Grant VanLeer and Katherine Frazer, his sister, Susan (Frazer) Stebbins, and a brother, Gustave Tonn. He is survived by his wife Sharon, his daughter Anne, his son Ted, his daughter-in-law Jen (Nagy) Frazer, his grandchildren Eleanor and Lucille, his brother Edward and sister Ruth.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/donate.html) and/or the Wildland Firefighter Foundation (http://give.wffoundation.org). A memorial service will be held at Spring Mill State Park in Indiana in April.
