Obituary

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend Holly Ann (Graham) Dunn passed peacefully at home in Helena, MT on May 30th, 2023, after a 6 month battle with a glioblastoma (brain cancer).

Holly was born October 4th, 1959 in Billings, MT to Dean and Dorothy (Tomicich) Graham. The youngest of 6 children, Holly was spoiled and well loved by all her brothers and sisters, even if they did once tie her to the family dog. Holly attended Fratt Memorial and Central Catholic High School. In her younger years, she participated in many rodeo events and loved horses. She brought her horse into the house during a storm one time and which is hard to believe her mom let happen! She was proud that in grade school she was tall enough she could reach the floor when the nuns hung her on the coat hooks. Holly was a cheerleader and ran track while attending Central. It was not uncommon for her to place in the 440 meter relay or the 880 meter. She attended Eastern, now MSU-B, for a few years but didn't finish, which is something she regretted.

She traveled many places around the US. It was interesting talking to Holly about the places she went.  She rode a chopper and eventually found herself in Alaska. Holly was quite the pool shark and always hustled a good game of pool, which is how she met the love of her life, Randy. Randy invited her to go shooting sometime, which was another favorite pastime of hers. The next day, in -45 degree weather, Holly showed up at Randy's house wanting to go shoot. Randy took her shooting and continued to cater to her throughout her entire life. Their love for the outdoors took them on many camping, hunting, and four wheeling trips in the White Mountains of Alaska. She enjoyed fishing, but needed Randy to bait her hook because she hated worms. After 5 years of adventures, Holly and Randy declared themselves married on September 24th, 1992.

They had 2 children, Azher and Kelsey. Holly was the best mother to her girls. She was kind, attentive, caring, and probably didn't tell either of them no enough. She was always there to listen when they needed someone to listen and offer advice when they needed. She comforted them through every heartbreak, failed test, bad hair cut, and any other catastrophe that teenage girls have. She also put most of Azher's fears as a new mom to rest when called with questions about what to do with a newborn or infant. Holly would drop anything she was doing if one of her girls needed something, even if that meant driving urgently somewhere without much notice.

Holly spent 26 years at the Helena School District, working with the special education department her entire career. Most recently, she worked as a behavioral interventionist paraeducator. She worked up until the day she was diagnosed with the brain tumor. All the kids and families she worked with held a very special place in her heart. Her family laughed because she had way more patience with the school kids than she did with her own. She led by example and many times her family heard how all the paras should be like Holly. Recently, she received letters from the kids at school, which put a huge smile on her face.

In addition to being an amazing wife, mother, and para, Holly was very talented with crafting, anything from ceramics to beading. She was an avid gardener, a meticulous wild game meat cutter, an enjoyer of many genres of music, and delighted in a good glass of wine. She would volunteer to help in whatever way she could. More than once she coached a soccer team or chaperoned a school field trip or event. As sweet as Holly was, she also had a snarky, sarcastic, take no shit side. When Holly and Randy were first going together, Holly showed up to Randy's house. There were dirty dishes in the sink and dishwasher. She was irritated, probably because she had previously told Randy he needed to do something with them, so she threw every single dish away and made him go buy all new dishes the next day. She was the first to stand up for anyone that needed it, even if it was standing up to the principal when one of her girls ended up in his office. One thing Holly was famous for was her eye roll, which runs in her family. If you don't know about the eye roll, she must have thought highly of you.

About 3 years ago, Holly figured out what she loved to do most, be a grandma. Her grandson, Tillman, was the light of her life. She spoiled him like no other and he loved her so much. They would spend countless hours playing, laughing, reading, sharing a mint chocolate ice cream cone, or just running around. In her final days, Tillman would pick out a toy and bring it to Grandmas saying "Grammy would love this". Now he says, "Grammy went to heaven".

In addition to leaving behind her grandson Tillman, Holly leaves her husband, Randy Dunn, daughters Azher (Lane and Tillman) Gobbs, Kelsey Dunn, three brothers, two sisters, as well as many dearly loved family and friends. Holly is proceeded in death by her parents Dean and Dorothy Graham, mother-in-law Jolene Lafley, and father-in-law Edmund Dunn.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. If you wish to do something to honor Holly, please plant a flower, enjoy a good glass of wine out of a plastic wine cup, or spend time with your family. If you wish to donate in memory of Holly, please consider Kim's Hope, www.kimshope.org, a nonprofit, that specifically helps patients who have glioblastomas. Holly was able to stay in her home until the very end, something that would not have been possible without the help and devotion of her daughter, Kelsey.

Simple Cremation Montana has assisted the family.
