Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Marie Prevel (Herrington) announces her passing on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at the age of 79 years. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her five children, Andre (Lana), Jacqueline (Scott) Bodle, Jeanette, Genevieve (Steven) Massey, and Monique (Roy) Prevel. Helen will also be fondly remembered by her eight grandchildren Miranda (Jared) Prevel, Jacob (Jodee) Prevel, Alex (ShyAnn) Prevel, Tracey (Joe) Prevel, Margaret (Mike) Prevel, Anthony Bodle, Beth Bodle, and Nikolai Prevel. Helen was blessed with seven great-grandchildren as well. She will be forever remembered by her siblings Lillian Arden, Kathleen Hill, Ernest Herrington, and Wayne Herrington. Helen is preceded in death by her father and mother Wayne and Irene Herrington, husband Andre Prevel, brother William Herrington and sister Lois Olsen. Helen was born and raised in Winston, Montana to Wayne and Irene Herrington. Helen graduated from Broadwater High School in 1959, receiving perfect attendance in 1955 and 1956. In 1958 Helen completed an exam in which she won a trip to study the United Nations. The three-week trip started in Billings, Montana and Helen traveled by bus through North Dakota, parts of Canada, Vermont, and New York City. Helen met her husband Andre Prevel on the Galzagorry ranch in Winston, Montana around 1962. In 1963 Andre Sr. and Helen married and welcomed the first of their five children, "Little" Andre. A few years later in 1970 their first girl, Jacqueline, was born. Later, Jeanette was born in 1972, Genevieve was born in 1981, and the youngest, Monique, was born in 1983. Helen waitressed in Townsend and Helena for over 30 years. She was the Union Representative for the Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union for four years. In 1991 Helen attended Helena College of Technology and graduated with her Associates in Accounting in 1993. She worked for WIPF Construction for several years and then was hired by the State of Montana with the Department of Health and Human Services, in the Child Enforcement Support Division in 1994. In 1997 Helen was recognized by Governor Marc Racicot at the State of Montana Employee Recognition Day. She received The Governor's Appreciation Award for Excellence in Performance. She retired from the State in 2011.Helen loved being with her family. She could often be found floating the Missouri, snow tubing with her family, or helping set-up for the 4-H fair in Townsend. She taught her children to work hard and appreciate the small things in life. Helen was never one for fanfare or fancy things, she appreciated the simplicity life provided. Throughout Helen's life she loved to read and could often be found at the kitchen table with a book. A Celebration of Helen's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 2, 2021, at Heritage Park, 200 South Pine in Townsend, Montana, with Judge (ret) Gary Olsen officiating. Memorial donations in Helen's honor may be made to the Big Sky Autism Project, PO Box 842 Townsend, MT 59644.
