Obituary

Gloriann (Gloria) Olson was born October 5, 1932 in Roundup Montana. She passed away on July 27, 2025 in Helena, Montana at 92 years old.

Gloria was the youngest of ten children born to Mabel Perrin and Frank Joseph Grubb. After living in Roundup, Missoula, and Hot Springs, the Grubb family moved to Chinook, Montana where Gloria attended and graduated from Chinook High School in 1950. Soon after, she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Olson. Bill and Gloria were married in October 1951 and subsequently had four children, William Douglas (Doug), Debra (Debbie), Mark, and Todd.

Bill's career moved the family from Chinook to Sidney, Missoula, and eventually, Helena. Gloria lived and passed in the same Helena home that she and Bill had owned since 1963.

Gloria bowled in several city leagues over 40 years and held offices for both local and statewide bowling associations. Gloria, together with Bill, was also active in establishing junior bowling programs in Helena and across the state. Gloria was also involved in numerous benevolent organizations and community groups between 1951 and when she and Bill retired in 1990. Gloria was a proud member of the First Baptist Church on 8th and Warren.

Over the 60+ years that Gloria and Bill lived in the upper westside of Helena, they forged many long-lasting, strong relationships with their neighbors (and kids), notably Herb and Joyce Jacobson, Dan and Lillian Dykstra, and Jim and Patsy Tompkins. Gloria's neighbors were extensions of her family just as her family was with the neighbors. These relationships contributed greatly to Gloria's longevity and livelihood.

Gloria's lifetime joy was raising her kids and supporting Bill; a tireless devotion that she continued with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anyone who knew Gloria – especially later in life - knew she was one of a kind. She was stubborn, feisty, outspoken (unfiltered), but had the biggest heart for everyone she met. Gloria gave freely and often. She didn't need a reason, loving you was enough.

Gloria enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, reading the newspaper, and visiting with……well, anyone. She leaves behind a legacy not measured in wealth or achievements, but rooted in unwavering, unconditional, generous, fierce love.

Gloria was the last of her family - preceded in death by her parents and all nine brothers and sisters: Donald, Joel, Elvin, Janice, Darthula, Elizabeth (Bette), Vance, Velma, and Marvin. Gloria was also preceded in death by her ever-loving, Bill, and daughter, Debbie.

Gloria is survived by her three sons, Doug (Theresa), Mark (Sandee), and Todd (Rehanna), son-in-law Allen Janes (Debbie), seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Gloria will be interred at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison with Bill. A celebration of Gloria's life will held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, 201 8th Avenue, Helena, MT with a luncheon to follow.

Psalm 34:18 (NIV): The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
