Ernest Nettik, 89, of Helena, MT, peacefully passed away on November 27, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with Alzheimer's. Just 2 days, 2 hours shy of 90 years old.

Ernie was born on November 30, 1933, to Edward and Verna Nettik in Dillon, Montana. Ernie graduated from Beaverhead High School in 1952. After graduation, Ernie served in the Army for 2 years during the Korean war. After his return, Ernie met Mary Ellen Iverson in Dillon, Montana. They were married on December 16, 1955. This year they would have celebrated 68 Wonderful years together.

Ernie worked in the auto body repair business for 24 years. He then worked for Montana Mobile Homes, setting up and repairing mobile homes for 10. After that, Ernie worked at Warren School as a Custodian for 9-1/2 years. He was loved by the staff and especially the children. On October 30, 1998, Helena mayor Colleen McCarthy, proclaimed that day as Ernie Nettik Day.  Ernie was passionate about and loved what he did for a living. Ernie always said he loved every job he had.  Ernie retired in 1998. While retired, Ernie had time to pursue his love of gardening, growing his roses, and building bird houses, and his pinecone trees. He also enjoyed cruising around in their 1966 Mustang convertible.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (Iverson) Nettik, Dog, Mitzi, Daughter Denise (Bill) Hayden, Son Dennis Nettik Simmons, his grandchildren Jasmine (Jared) Nettik Simmons and Braedan Bourgon, sister-in-law Irene (Jim) Newton, and his great grandchildren Soloman and Rufus, along with nieces and nephews.

Ernie is preceded by his parents Edward and Verna Nettik, brother Michael Nettik and sister Verona (George) Eby.

Graveside Services will be held Friday, December 15th at 11:30 AM at Fort Harrison, Montana State Veterans Cemetery. Following the service there will be a gathering to celebrate Ernie's life at the Life Covenant Church. 800 North Hoback Street, Helena, MT.
