Donald Dale Meek, aged 84, of Helena, Montana died at home Saturday, June 10, 2023 of a sudden heart attack. Born February 12th, 1939 in Bedford, Ohio to Ellis and Irene Meek, where his sisters Dorothy and Francis may have spoiled him a little, as he was sixteen and thirteen years younger respectively, than his siblings. Don attended Bedford High School where he enjoyed wrestling and football.
Don graduated as a Civil Engineer from Ohio State University in 1967 before it became "The" OSU. During the Vietnam War Don left school and spent two years in the Army as a radio operator in Headquarters Southern Command Panama Canal Zone. Upon discharge Don returned to school.
While at University, he met Mary Lyn Moncrief. He thought she looked wealthy. She wasn't. She thought he looked like a professor. He wasn't. They married in 1967 and spent nearly 55 years happily, learning about each other.
Don's early work in heavy construction took him to California, as Gordon H Ball's Cal Trans Highway Project Engineer, and Folsom South Canal as Paving Engineer and Project Manager. In New Mexico, Don worked as Project Manager on Navajo Indian Irrigation projects. By 1996 Don was Vice President, Operations Manager.
Upon retirement, Don and Mary Lyn moved to Helena, Montana. Don continued as consultant until he decided to learn to play golf, which soon became all consuming. He was introduced by his good friend Tom Trebon, to Kiwanis and was accepted as a member. Kiwanis' deep involvement in benefitting the lives of children was important to Donald and he was soon deeply engaged in Kiwanis' programs.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy Duenkler (Helena), sister Francis Deas (Bedford, OH), and nephew Bruce Duenkler (Helena). Donald is survived by his wife Mary Lyn, nieces Cheryl Brown (Helena), Martha Svoboda (Bedford, OH), Stephanie Polk (Rotterdam, NY), and nephew Raymond Deas (Bedford, OH), as well as guard cat Uncle John (Helena).
