Obituary

Colleen Dunn Chapman was born December 11, 1946, to Lorraine Charlton Dunn and Dennis Dunn in Seattle, Washington. Before she turned one year old, her parents brought her home to Montana where she remained a resident of Billings for the rest of her days. Colleen grew up in a happy home with wonderful parents, but she remained an only child. She graduated from West High in 1965 and from Montana State University, Billings, in 1980, with a degree in Special Education. She eventually earned a master's degree in Learning Disabilities and an endorsement in Elementary Administration. She taught in Billings Schools for the next 31 years, retiring in 2011. Colleen loved teaching but she enjoyed retirement, too, where her interests included avid reading, painting rocks, quilting and keeping up with her high school group of friends via the phone, the internet and occasional visits. Colleen married Darryl Chapman in 1967, and they had one son, Michael who was her best friend, only family, and the complete joy of her life until his death in 2018. Darryl and Colleen divorced in 1972. Colleen also had a special relationship with Richard Hereim of Billings and his daughter Amy Goffena of Roundup and Amy's three daughters, Maddie, Ana and Juju, all three of whom became the granddaughters of her heart. Colleen had friendships of over 50 years with Diane Hicks, Susie Smith, Kathe Davenport, Sharon Dewell and Charla Guidice who provided her with the sisterhood she never had in her own family. At Colleen's request, no services will be held but memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice.
