Obituary

Cindy Carrol (Allison) Lindskog, of Helena, Montana passed away peacefully in her sleep late in the evening on July 3, 2026. Her husband Tom Lindskog was by her side.

Cindy was born on October 4, 1947, in Missoula Montana to Norman and Olga Allison. She and her younger sister Kristy grew up moving often as their father worked for the Forest Service. At one point Cindy had a pet chipmunk named Timothy Ticklebritches when they lived at the Kelly Creek Ranger Station in Idaho. They also lived in Helena, Montana and Couer D’Alene and Salmon, Idaho.

She graduated from high school in Salmon, Idaho in 1965, where she met Tom. Cindy attended Idaho State the following year, taking business classes. She married Tom on September 10, 1966, in Salmon. Their first home was in Pocatello, Idaho where they lived while Tom finished his degree in Physical Education with a minor in Biology at Idaho State. It is also where they had their first child, Shanna.

From there they moved to Gooding, Idaho where Tom taught and coached. The first summer they lived and worked on the Iron Mountain Lookout near Fairfield, Idaho. They lived one more year in Gooding, and their son Travis was born there.

The family moved to Frenchtown, Montana in 1970. While Tom taught, coached and worked for the Forest Service during the summers Cindy held down the fort. She gardened, learned to take a pig’s temperature and even wrote a children’s story based on her kids called “Bad Bascomb the Onery Bear.” Bascomb had a sister named Bossy Betsy. Cindy wrote about her life and saw the humor where others might weep. She and the kids also spent summers with her parents in Bitterroot Valley.

In 1975 they moved to Bozeman, Montana and lived in student housing while Tom finished his master’s degree. They moved to several houses after that and spent a total of 23 years in the Gallatin Valley where Tom was the Intramural Director at Montana State. Cindy thrived with her friends in Bozeman. She was an avid walker with her friends and her dog Charlie. She was also involved at Grace Baptist Church, learned how to paint watercolors, and spent many hours on the road to the Bitterroot Valley caring for her parents at the end of their lives. She loved Jesus and her family. In 1995 she faced her greatest challenge: leukemia. She won the battle with the help of her doctors in Seattle Tom’s care and support.

Their next stop was for three years in Casper, Wyoming where Tom finished his career dispatching for the Bureau of Land Management. Their greatest adventure was moving to Lewistown, Montana where they built their dream house west of town. Again, Cindy was in her element. She belonged to Central Baptist Church where she built several lasting friendships, and she loved her next dog Chance just as much as she had loved Charlie. They spent 18 very enjoyable years in Lewistown.

In 2018 they moved to Helena to be closer to their son Travis and his family. Cindy attended Liberty Baptist Church until she took a fall in February of 2024, and she ended up being wheelchair bound. Tom took care of her for the remaining years as dementia began to set in. She was able to stay home until the end.

Cindy is survived by her husband Tom; her daughter Shanna (Dale) Shrader of Lillington, North Carolina; her son Travis (Lyla) Lindskog of Helena, Montana; 6 grandchildren: Rachel Shrader, Seth (Katelyn) Shrader, Daniel Lindskog, Niklas Lindskog, Allison Lindskog and Katelyn Lindskog; 1 great grandchild Grayson Nottingham; her sister Kristy (John) Jukkola; her brother-in-law Dennis (Julie) Lindskog and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Norman and Olga Allison.

Cindy’s memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 12th at Liberty Baptist Church, 210 Sierra Road West, Helena, MT 59602. Dennis Lindskog and Russ McCurdy will be officiating. The reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Condolences can be left at www.simplecremationmt.com.
