Chase Alan Hotchkiss, age 38, died on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at the BeeHive Home in Helena, with his mother, Becky and his sister, Tiffany by his side. Chase had a brief and difficult struggle with cancer.Chase was born on May 27, 1982 in Missoula, MT. He was united with his forever family when he was five months old. At age 11 months, Chase received a diagnosis of cerebral palsy. Although he may never walk on his own, his motorized chair was a great pair of legs.Chase received his early education by attending school in East Helena and he graduated from Helena High School in 2001. Chase went on to school at University of Montana. However, in reality the difficulty of needing all the special equipment to keep up was a big disappointment to Chase. Chase stayed in Missoula after his attempt at a college education until his illness brought him home to Helena to be with family. He was an avid reader, and he told his Mom that he had many books on his computer that he hoped he would have time to read before his death. His computer and wheel chair were his eyes into the world. It was common for him to travel upwards of 12 miles a day around Helena and Missoula. He enjoyed quiet trails and being where people gathered.Family meant everything to Chase. He had many friends as became evident by the number of people that made the journey to Helena from different towns and states to say Goodbye. He was good natured, but he stood his ground if he didn't like someone's behavior.Chase will best be remembered for his dry sense of humor and his food palate. In his final days, he was still requesting food choices that he had read about but not tried. One example is lutefisk, and his Mom was able to steer him to something more tasteful like Pigs in Blankets.Chase was preceded in death by his father Roger Hotchkiss, brother Randy Hotchkiss, numerous uncles and grandparents. Surviving family members are his Mother and Step-father, Becky and Ken Cottrell, his sister Tiffany Hotchkiss of Missoula, and his nieces Haile and Eviee of Helena. He is also survived by a large family of Aunts, Uncles, and cousins as well as his BeeHive community in Helena and Missoula.Due to Covid, no formal service is scheduled at this time. A private family service and spreading of Chase's ashes will be held at a favorite place near Glacier Park sometime next summer.Special Thanks to all the wonderful staff at the BeeHive in Helena making it possible for Chase to be home with family these past months. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
