arol Englehart, age 96, passed away on November 13, 2025, at Touchmark in Helena, Mont., hometown of her daughter, Ann. Carol was born in Portland, Ore., and grew up in Eastmoreland, the sixth child of Jeanette and Samuel Chambers. She lived her entire life in Portland, Ore., attended the University of Oregon and Lewis and Clark College, and lived briefly in London with her sister shortly after World War II. She was married to Miles P. Englehart, divorced, with three children, Ann, David and Jane. Carol was a beloved friend, grandma and great-grandma to many. Charming, gracious, a good listener, full of fun and funny quips. People enjoyed her company and she enjoyed them. Mom appreciated beauty: artwork, antiques, The Town Club, of which she was a member most of her adulthood, and all things in nature - flowers, trees and birds. Her favorite place was Spirit Lake, where the family spent a week every summer until the volcano erased it. She enjoyed music, and played the Ukelele. In her youth and early adulthood, she enjoyed ice skating and later, art classes at the Portland Art Museum. She is survived by her daughters, Ann Desch (David) and Jane Both (Bob); grandchildren, Sam and Price Both, Libby Desch Stout (Chris), Kimberly Lin (Joe), Philip (Kindra) and Jason Englehart (Meghan); Rob and Tim Englehart; and great-grandchildren, Sophie and Toby Lin, and Caleb, Henry, Benton, and Jacob Englehart. She is predeceased by her son, David Englehart (Sandy), and beloved Robert Koch. She is grateful to the Koch family and their children, and her devoted friends. As a supporter of the library, donations can be made to The Library Foundation. Cremation has taken place; inurnment will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Portland, Ore., on a date to be determined.
