IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol
Anderson
June 20, 1941 – January 20, 2025
Carol passed away on Jan. 20, 2025 at St. Peter's Hospital in Helena, MT surrounded by friends. She was born on June 20, 1941 in Boulder, Colorado to Walter and Helen Overman.
Carol was an honor student throughout high school and was inducted into the National Honor Society. She graduated from Butte High in 1956. She went on to become a licensed pilot, gaining her certification in 1962, eventually becoming certified for both single and multi-engine airplanes. Being a petite 5'2", Carol often needed a pillow to see over the instrument panel of the cockpit. She was a member of the 99's International Organization of Women Pilots and enjoyed flying the Montana skies with other members of the club.
Carol married Clem Anderson on September 6, 1967 and they celebrated many years together. Carol was an avid motorcycle rider, however, Clem did not share her enthusiasm. On weekend rides, Clem often followed in their car. Carol and Clem enjoyed traveling and experienced many international destinations. One of Carol's favorite stories is of a trip to Morocco and riding camels together.
Carol was also an amateur astronomer and even had an observatory and telescope in her backyard. In 2005, Carol joined The Cloudy Nights astronomy group and became a moderator in 2007. Together with her friend, Frank, they hosted the Off Topic Observatory and Feedback forums for several years. Carol's gentleness contributed much to the culture of Cloudy Nights. She guided many of the current 'staff' through their early days. Cloudy Nights was her family; they referred to her as their 'Den Mama.' She was an avid wildlife photographer and many of her images can be found on Cloudy Nights.
A few short months ago, while asking Carol about her final wishes, she lamented that she had never been baptized. Through the efforts of friends, and Fr. Tim at St Mary's Catholic Church, she received her baptism and full acceptance into the Catholic Church. She entered this final chapter with the strength and courage that served her so well throughout her life.
Carol is survived by her little ball of fur, Trixie, a malipoodle mix. Carol will be remembered widely for her wit and sense of humor. Remember Carol as a woman of strength and moxie who loved life. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
A funeral Mass and reception will be held for Carol at St. Mary Catholic Community, 1700 Missoula Avenue in Helena on March 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
