IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Beverly Jane
Tomaskie
November 5, 1930 – February 19, 2022
Beverly J. Krause Tomaskie passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease and complications with Covid on February 19 in Helena. Bev was born in Great Falls, Montana to Fern and Ted Krause on November 5, 1930. She was the oldest of two children.Beverly met her husband, John, in Great Falls and they were married in 1948. They lived in Great Falls until they moved to Helena in 1952 where they remained until her death. Beverly was preceded in her death by her husband, John; her son, Thomas "Buzzy"; daughter Patricia "Patty"; grandson Jeffery Lefferdink (Jeff); her parents; and her numerous beloved horses and mules. Beverly lived in Great Falls until 1942 when her family moved to Portland, Oregon. They returned to Great Falls in 1945. While in Portland, Bev got her first job working in a bakery after school and on Saturday mornings. She and her sister, Carole, enjoyed the rest of the weekend spending her small paycheck going to the movies, the zoo, and roller skating - the activities were endless. She began working for Mountain Bell Telephone while still in high school. Bev transferred from Great Falls to Helena and continued working for the phone company until the mid-1960's. While working full time Bev raised five children, helped with all the outside chores and raised a large garden. Beverly used to say: "I go to work to rest." Beverly was in love with horses her entire life. She used to tell of the days she helped her grandfather bring his team of horses in from the field as a young girl. She often said she fell in love with her husband, John, the minute she found out he had a horse. Beverly spent many summer vacations traveling throughout the Bob Marshall Wilderness with her family. She was very active in the Helena Trail Riders, rode in the Helena Women's Drill Team, and participated in local Oh-Mok-Sees. She was sure to slip in a pleasure ride whenever time permitted. In the mid-1960's Beverly and her husband John began racing quarter horses. Quarter horse racing quickly turned into racing thoroughbreds. Beverly had a special touch with horses. Every horse seemed to love her as much as she loved them. Beverly was the trainer, often winning the top owner of the race meet. She trained and ran horses in Montana, Idaho, Washington, Arizona and Canada. Bev and John ran horses until the late 1990's. Beverly was unable to stay away from her equine friends. Bev had her son, Bob, teach her how to drive mules. She drove mules for fun, as well as, competition for 10 years. She was always sure to "dress to impress" during her competitions with her fancy hats, elaborate dresses (with lots of bling) and fringed leather gloves. When not working with her horses and mules, Bev spent endless hours with her friends in water aerobics, playing pinochle, and volunteering at Good Samaritan. Beverly lived a life filled with hard work, family, horses and friends. Beverly is survived by her daughter, Shirley "Shug" Ingram of Havre; son Robert "Bob" (Debbie) Tomaskie of Helena; daughter Betty Lou Kistler (Danny Moseley) of Aurora, Colorado, her sister, Carole Sonsteng of Helena; and numerous cousins and grandchildren. Bev's beautiful smile, endless energy and joy for life, will be greatly missed by family and friends. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to all of the amazing caretakers at Touchmark of Helena and St. Peter's Health Hospice. There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life in Helena at a later date. Simple Cremation MT has assisted the family.
