Betty Jo VanDiest – Bowen (nee Harper) joined her Creator April 26, 2025.

As an artist, musician and poet, she filled the lives of those around her with beauty, joy and her love of all creation. A true Montana ranch woman, she will be remembered for her grit, legendary strength of will, and tenacity. She was much loved, and will be greatly missed.

Betty is survived by husband Val Bowen, son Karl (Joy) MacDiarmid, daughter Alexis MacDiarmid, daughter Deidre (Dave) Shomber, son John (Scotty) VanDiest, 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, multiple nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

Interment at Fort Harrison is private and a celebration of life will be held May 3rd, 2025 3:00 pm at the Set Free Church, 1727 Waukesha Ave. Helena, MT 59601.
