Obituary

Betty Lou (Erickson) Brosten, age 93, died on January 19, 2024 at the home of her son in the presence of Barry, daughter-in-law Nancy and granddaughter Claire.

Betty was born on September 12, 1930 in Bowman, ND, to Clarence and Evelyn Erickson. Her family included brothers Ray, Herb and Jim and sister Ginger. She graduated from the National School of Business with the class of 1949.  In December 1952, she was one of 17 people in the nation to pass the 175 words per minute shorthand test.

She met Einar Brosten while he was stationed in South Dakota with the Air Force and they were married on January 17, 1954. Betty and Einar started their life together in Bozeman when Einar was a student at Montana State College.  They lived in Belfry and Hardin before finally settling in Helena in 1966.  They had three children, Barry (Nancy), Bonnie (Tom Waters) and Bart (Laura), eight grandchildren, Andrew (Vanessa), Emily (Lonnie) Fulp, Claire Brosten (Raser), Peter and Rachel Brosten, and Ben (Carly), Patrick and Allen (Essie) Waters and two great grandchildren, Quinton and Zavier Fulp.

Betty worked as a legal secretary for a Helena law firm for 20 years.  She and Einar retired and spent their winter months in Arizona for many years.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Einar Brosten. When asked what her final wishes were, Betty said she wanted to be cremated and placed with Einar, so she could watch over him. He was laid to rest at the VA cemetery at Fort Harrison VA in November 2020. We were honored to have her last wish granted.

We greatly appreciated the support of St. Peter's Hospice.  Simple Cremation Montana has assisted the family.
