IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann
Rau
September 22, 1941 – December 6, 2022
Ann Marie Rau passed away December 6, 2022 surrounded by her loving family in Helena Montana. Her life began as Noblene Hazel Hill, born to Noble D and Katherine J Hill in Battle Creek Michigan where her father was stationed, joining her brothers James and Michael Lee. Raised in Cleveland Ohio, without their father began a difficult childhood with her brothers. Renamed Ann Marie as a child, she attended catholic school later attending John Marshall High School. Following high school, while working in a pet store she met David Rau. Not only did she fall in love with him, but she also fell in love with his parents William and Ruth and sister Diane. Ruth became the mom and Diane the sister she never had. After marrying, they welcomed Teresa Ellen, then David Michael and moved to the suburbs of Cleveland settling in Brook Park. Dave worked as a tool and die maker, and Ann prided herself on being an involved mom, keeping a meticulous home and working summers in the fair business selling peanuts to add to the family income. She had an adventurous soul, loved horses, hiking and nature which she shared with her children. After 13 years of marriage, she and her children moved to Mesa Arizona. Her life was the stuff movies are made of. The fair business became her passion, she expanded from peanuts to having the world's largest motorcycle, cinnamon rolls, lemonade, turquoise, to name a few. Her business ventures led her and the kids to Florida then Texas. She began working at Sam Houston State University in catering that led her to a friendship with Montanan Cindy Beebe. This friendship would move her in another direction in life. Her last position in Texas was as a correctional officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Huntsville. After a vacation in Montana with Cindy's family and feeling she was meant to be in that part of the country, she decided to move to Helena Montana in 1992 and worked at Mountain View girls home then on to DNRC for the Oil and Gas Division. Her kids soon followed. Beautiful and loving, Ann never thought love would come her way but that all changed when her soul mate Joe Karwaski came into her life. He shared her passion of the outdoors, fishing, cooking and sports. They had a loving relationship for the last 15 years of her life. The choices Ann made are responsible for the extended family she has today. She was predeceased by her loving brothers James and Michael Lee Rollins. Ann is survived by Teresa (Ian) Dalton, David (Tammy) Rau, granddaughters Sara and Amanda (Sage Fairclough) Dalton, Whitney (Danny) Taasevigen and their children Kaden and Kylie, her only grandson Aaron (Michaela Olmstead) Rau, and her Colombian granddaughter Ana Maria (Koyi Nakata) Londono Botero, nephews James, Matthew Rollins, Ken, Dan and niece Kristen (Dave Tomasco) Ternovan and their extended families. Per Ann's wishes, there will be a private gathering in June to scatter her remains in a place of beauty she shared with her love, Joe. She will be greatly missed but her love remains in those she touched in her amazing life. In her words, she leaves this world with riches for the love she had with her family.
