Andrew "Andy" Maphies, 68, passed away in Montana City on 10/30/2020 following a short battle with cancer.Andy was born 10/23/1952 in Helena, MT to Charles and Margaret Maphies.Andy lived in the Helena/Clancy area all of his life. He attended School at Bryant Elementary and Helena High School. He worked in many local restaurants including Wong's, Yatson's, Bullwinkle's, Papa Ray's, Montana City Grill, Chubbys Bar and Lucky Bucky's. He also had Andy's Lawn Mowing Service for several years. Through his occupations he met many people of which many became longtime friends. Andy loved sharing time with his siblings when he wasn't working one of his many jobs. Andy was a very generous and caring person as well as a very loyal and dedicated employee. He loved doing things for others that he knew would make them happy. Andy was known for his Chinese food. For a few years he prepared a Chinese dinner for many people at the Stenjhem and Raymond hunting camps up Whites Gulch. He always brought his Chinese Pork to family gatherings as well as many special occasions for others. Everyone looked forward to the pork and we will miss it at the next family gathering. Andy was a devoted Dallas Cowboy fan. Several years ago his Brother Bob took him to Denver to watch a game with the Broncos and of course he fell in love with the cheerleaders. He loved being outdoors when he wasn't working. He liked to water ski and go boating with his Brother Bob. He made a trip to Yellowstone on a snowmobile years ago and hunted with his Brother when time allowed. Andy spent a lot of time with the Simac Family both working for them and enjoying dinners and fun times with the family. They were very fond of Andy and he was especially fond of Whitney. Since becoming ill Andy had several things he wanted to do while he was still able. That included many weekends of fishing for walleye with his good friends Scott & Jody Anderson. He spent time with them at the Silo's and was successful in catching fish. He also spent many weekends camping with family at Devil's Elbow and Court Sheriff. He would bring ice to the campers some of which he knew and some he didn't. He became known as the Ice Man. He also shared his Chinese Pork a few times. He got to float the Missouri River in the raft and fish along the way. He caught a nice rainbow trout that he shared with friends. He went to Yellowstone Park in September and truly enjoyed the scenery and all the animals we encountered that day. Truly a memorable trip for him. In October he went to Ennis, Virginia City and Nevada City with family and friends. Another memorable trip for him.
