IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alan Richard
Pillman
August 1, 1946 – January 17, 2023
Al passed away at his home on January 17, 2023 after a courageous battle with Lewey Body Dementia.
He was born August 1, 1946 in St. Louis, MO to Fred and Audrey Pillman. He attended school in Kirkwood, MO and graduated from Central Methodist University and Indiana State University. Al proudly served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Seattle. One of his joys was reconnecting with his fellow sailors on numerous Seattle Association reunions.
Al's professional career began as a counselor for Vietnam vets, Native American families and kids in group homes. He was a great mentor to many young people. His next venture was into retail, spending many years with Hennessey's Department Stores. Stories are told of what a fair and supportive boss he was, never afraid to jump in and assist.
Al was happiest outdoors. He loved fishing of any kind, hunting, camping and catching any critter that moved, especially snakes. His fishing trips with Larry and Brian were epic, particularly the weeks at Lount Lake in Canada. Al loved to read, especially history and was a whiz at crosswords, scrabble and board games.
Al is survived by his wife, Peggy Pillman, children, Heather Pillman of Albuquerque, NM, Brian (Dori) Pillman of Spokane, WA and Ali (Tyler) Cross of Billings, MT, grandchildren, Veda, Oliver and Scarlett Cross, brother Larry (Jeanne) Pillman of Spring Hill, KS, sister, Janet (Deb Morgan) Pillman of High Ridge, MO, brother-in-law Jack (Nancy Kaza) McKenna, step-children Zane Sept, Janna Allie, Jacquie Sigman, Michael, Joe and Beth Glueckert, 12 step-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or St Jude's Children's Hospital.
