Adam Foster Laceky died on Monday, December 18, in the longtime family home in Helena after a long illness. He was 59.
Adam was born Nov, 6, 1964, in Oklahoma City and moved to Helena with his family in 1976. He graduated from Capital High School and attended the University of Montana in Missoula. He later lived briefly in Dallas and Great Falls, where he did computer graphics for the Great Falls Tribune. For some years he operated his own company in Helena, Excellent Graphics. He also created virtual tours of the Lewis and Clark Caverns state park and the Archie Bray Foundation and its grounds west of Helena.
He was a poet, sculptor, word maven, grammarian, advocate of the Oxford comma, and student of languages, especially Indo-European languages. He was an unpublished novelist and won two internet short-story contests. For one session of the Montana Legislature, he worked as a proofreader in the bill-drafting office. He loved dogs, all dogs.
The first formal public show of his work, a series of 10 poems reflecting on clouds, was set for last spring in a spacious venue in downtown Helena. The day of the opening, however, the venue host objected to a few lines of one poem. Adam refused to change the poem and withdrew the entire show the same day. It was never shown.
Adam is survived by his parents, Tom and Carolyn (Slough) Laceky of Helena, and a brother, Mark Sheridan Laceky, Chicago.
The family are deeply grateful to the hospice of St. Peter's Hospital and the nurses who shepherded him through his long illness. Cremation has taken place. Simple Cremation Montana has assisted the family.
